Kids Garden

Gardening is the easiest science lab there is. These activities work for ages five to fourteen, need almost no equipment, and end with something alive.

Activities to try this month

  • Grow a bean in a jar — a wet cotton pad, a rajma bean and a glass jar. Roots appear in three days.
  • Butterfly watch — plant one milkweed and keep a tally sheet.
  • Regrow your kitchen — carrot tops, coriander stems and spring onion roots all come back in water.
  • Meet a worm — build a small worm bin and watch peels become soil in six weeks.
  • Leaf printing — paint the underside of a leaf and press it onto paper.
  • Seed diary — one page per plant: sown on, sprouted on, first flower.

For teachers and parents

Every activity maps to a curriculum idea — life cycles, habitats, decomposition, pollination — and needs less than twenty minutes of setup. Write to us for the printed activity pack.
