Grow at Home

Everything you need to turn a windowsill, a balcony or a patch of ground into a working garden — soil, water, light and a first harvest inside two months.

Your first eight weeks

  1. Read your light. Watch the spot for a day. Four hours of direct sun grows greens; six or more grows fruit.
  2. Build the soil. Equal parts garden soil, compost and coco peat. Skip the chemical fertiliser entirely.
  3. Start with two easy plants. Palak and tulsi. Both forgive mistakes and both give you something within six weeks.
  4. Water in the morning. Deep once, rather than shallow twice.
  5. Feed the soil, not the plant. A handful of compost each month keeps a pot alive for years.

Choose your space

Windowsill — herbs and microgreens in shallow troughs. Balcony — railing planters, tulsi, mint, chillies, marigold. Terrace — deeper containers and small trees; watch the weight load. Ground — raised beds, climbers and native shrubs.
